Drug companies are expanding manufacturing in — where else? — the high-cost Bay Area.

A trio of international drug companies are wrapping up or moving forward on East Bay projects worth more than $400 million and some 300 new jobs.

Practically all the jobs will land in Fremont as German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim expands its facility by a third. But buildouts by Germany-based Bayer HealthCare in Berkeley and Spain’s Grifols S.A. in Emeryville are no less significant, expanding on expertise already in the East Bay.
