Fremont Startup Grind Digest: Micah Yairi and Steve Basta
Don’t miss the final fireside chat for Fremont’s Startup Grind chapter of 2015! On Wednesday, December 16th Startup Grind Fremont features Dr. Micah Yairi, Co-Founder and CTO of Tactus Technology, Inc. Tactus is creating the next generation user interface for electronic consumer devices and displays – dynamic touch surfaces that enable buttons to rise up on demand out of the screen. Prior to founding Tactus, Yairi led development efforts for microfluidic transdermal drug delivery systems and advanced optical sensors for Los Gatos Research. Yairi also founded Fortnight Solutions, a business-to-business “match-making” service that helped engineering companies locate solutions to technical problems. Tickets are available online.
At the last Startup Grind event on October 29th, guest entrepreneur Steve Basta, former CEO of AlterG, talked about his professional experiences with an intimate group of attendees. Basta shared a valuable lesson from his twenty-year career in the biomedical and pharma industries: There is no one formula to get a product off the ground; the strategic challenges will always be different for each product. He also stressed that each executive brings a different set of skills to the table to help launch or grow a company. Throughout Basta’s career, he has focused on “build-up companies” with established products who lacked a commercialization strategy. Currently, he’s the CEO at Tigercat Pharma, a new biotech company based in San Francisco. Basta knows that his ability to build a core team will be the key to a successful corporate culture at Tigercat. Steve’s final words of wisdom to the group were to “always ask for advice”.
