“Xin Nian Kuai Le” – Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse
Recently, Karen D’Souza of Bay Area News Group wrote about how multicultural living is the future of cities. In particular, she describes her personal experience in Fremont and how the City has transformed from a once sleepy suburb to a diverse, multicultural, polyglot society. It is with this in mind, I wish everyone “Xin Nian Kuai Le; Gong Xi Fa Cai.” The meaning of the phrase roughly translates to “Happy New Year, Congratulations (on finishing last year), and best wishes for a prosperous future.”
As the City of Fremont is changing and evolving, we are seeing this change reflected not only in our residents, but also in our stores and restaurants. Recently, Whole Foods Market in downtown Fremont hosted an early celebration for Chinese New Year. The event had lion dancers, horse drawings for kids, and dumpling-making. Below are some photos from the event.
If you missed the New Year celebration at Whole Foods, you can still enjoy Lunar New Year food by eating at a Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese restaurant in Fremont. You can find a listing of Fremont’s ethnic restaurants here.
